Competition announced by DAERA to appoint three members to the Board of the Northern Ireland Fishery Harbour Authority (NIFHA)
The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is seeking to appoint three Members to the Board of the Northern Ireland Fishery Harbour Authority (NIFHA).
NIFHA is an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body sponsored by DAERA. It has a statutory responsibility for the improvement, management and maintenance of the three fishery harbours at Ardglass, Kilkeel and Portavogie.
DAERA Minister Andrew Muir said: “NIFHA plays an essential role in managing, maintaining and improving the fishery harbours and harbour estates in Ardglass, Kilkeel and Portavogie. In doing so, NIFHA has an important role in supporting the NI fishing industry through the provision of safe and sustainable harbours and maintaining healthy seas and thriving seafood communities.
“As a new member of NIFHA’s board you will play a key role in setting the strategic direction of the organisation and ensuring that there are effective governance and oversight arrangements in place, resources are effectively deployed and that key organisational priorities are effectively delivered.”

The appointments will be made in accordance with the and the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland (CPANI) Code of Practice. The composition of the NIFHA Board is provided for in Article 5 of the Northern Ireland Fishery Harbour Authority Order (Northern Ireland) 1973.

Appointments will be for a period of four years, subject to satisfactory performance. It is anticipated successful candidates will be appointed from 1st January 2027.
The member role requires approximately 16 – 18 days per annum and is remunerated at £5,847 per annum (under review).
