Alliance representatives press Infrastructure Minister for Newtownards water infrastructure investment
Alliance representatives Kellie Armstrong MLA and Cllr Vicky Moore have met with Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins to discuss the urgent need for investment in water and wastewater infrastructure in Newtownards.
They discussed the challenges facing the town and the importance of increasing capacity to support the building of new homes, local businesses and future growth.
Also attending were Derek Wright and Michael Cafolla, President and Vice President of Newtownards Chamber of Commerce, and local business owners Jessie and Sandy Jiao. They outlined the real impact that current infrastructure constraints are having on local businesses and investment.
Kellie Armstrong MLA said: “This was a constructive meeting and a valuable opportunity to discuss one of the most significant issues affecting Newtownards. Water and wastewater capacity continues to restrict housing, economic development and investment across the town.
“Hearing directly from local business representatives about the practical impact of these constraints reinforced just how urgent this issue has become. We will continue working with the Minister and all relevant agencies to secure the investment Newtownards needs.”
Cllr Vicky Moore added: “I’m grateful to Minister Kimmins for taking the time to meet with us and to the business representatives who shared their experiences. Their contributions highlighted that this is not a theoretical issue—it is already affecting businesses and limiting opportunities for growth.
“Improving water and wastewater infrastructure remains one of the biggest barriers to Newtownards reaching its full potential. We will continue pressing for the investment needed to build new homes, support local businesses and give our town the infrastructure it deserves.”
