Council Provides Festive Saturday Free Parking

NMD Council Chairperson Welcomes Free Saturday Car Parking at Council-owned Car Parks in run up to Christmas

Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson Cllr Philip Campbell has welcomed the decision to introduce free parking at council-owned car parks across the district on the three Saturdays in the run-up to Christmas.

The decision has been agreed by the Council to encourage people to shop locally with free car parking available on 6th, 13th and 2th December.

Cllr Campbell said the availability of free parking on the traditionally busiest shopping day of the week will be welcomed by shoppers and the business community alike.

The Council chairperson said: โ€œFree parking for shoppers is a timely boost at a very busy time of the year for retailers and other businesses across the district.

“The suspension of parking charges for three Saturdays in a row is a good news story at this time of year and will encourage people to shop locally.

โ€œIt is important we support our local traders at all times of the year, but especially so in the run-up to Christmas.”

The Council Chairperson said while it will be free to park on Saturdays throughout December, he is reminding shoppers to park responsibly at all times.

He added: โ€œI hope the free parking initiative will bring a little Christmas cheer to shoppers, families and the districtโ€™s hardworking business community.

“Shopping local helps build community spirit, especially at this time of year,โ€ the Chairperson added.
