Family farm tax must be scrapped says Hazzard

South Down Sinn Féin MP Chris Hazzard has described the British government’s farm inheritance tax proposals as ‘unacceptable’.

Chris Hazzard was speaking after attending an Ulster Farmers Union event in Westminster a year on from a major rally that urged the government to drop the measures.

South Down Sinn Féin MP Chris Hazzard says the Farm Family Tax is causing serious concern for farmers in the North and calls for it to be scrapped.

He said: “This shameful plan will place an unbearable financial burden on farming families,” Mr Hazzard said.

“Family farms play a vital role in our economy, rural communities and food supply.

“The proposals are unacceptable and would have devastating consequences for rural families.

“The British government must listen to the farming community before irreparable damage is done.”

UFU President William Irvine has led a strong campaign calling on the UK government to reconsider the Farm Family Tax.
