Galbraith presses EA over on-going SEN school transport issues
Downpatrick Councillor Conor Galbraith (SDLP) has called for urgent action from the Education Authority over on-going delays and withdrawals of home-to-school transport for children with special educational needs (SEN).
Councillor Galbraith said he has been contacted by parents across the Downpatrick area who are still waiting for transport to begin, despite the school year being well underway.
In some cases, he says, families who previously had transport in place have seen it withdrawn without any clear explanation.
Cllr Conor Galbraith said: “I have spoken to parents who are under real pressure because of these delays. They were assured transport would be in place, yet months later they are still waiting, or have had arrangements removed without any reason.
“This is causing huge stress for families and making it harder for children to access the education they deserve. The EA needs to show urgency and provide clarity.
“This is not a one-off issue… it happens every year. We need a permanent solution so that families are not left in limbo at the start of every school term.
