How Energy Efficient Is Your Home, Business or Community Organisation?

Michael Donnelly from the Dolmens Climate Action Network said: “We are working with Action Renewables to develop this local energy plan, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund through the Sustainable Energy Communities NI Programme, led by Advice NI.

“The goal is to help local people take control of local energy and keep its value in the community in the Mournes and Slieve Croob.

“Early research shows most homes in the area have an average EPC rating of D, but there’s growing interest in solar panels and small-scale renewables.

“Therefore, it makes sense that as a community we think about where our energy comes from and how much we spend on it,”

“Every business, farm and community building uses energy — but many could also generate it.”

Do you live in the Mournes and Slieve Croob area?

The Dolmens Climate Action Network wants your help to shape a Community Energy Master Plan — and you could benefit from a free Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) or energy audit.

As part of this project, fifty homes will receive a free EPC, ten households will be selected for a detailed energy audit, and five non-residential properties (such as farms, businesses or community buildings) will also be audited.

The short survey asks about your energy use, costs, and views on renewable energy — it only takes a few minutes to complete.

Dolmens is especially keen to hear from:
• Businesses with roof space (workshops, warehouses, shops)
• Farmers with land or barns suitable for solar panels

Across the UK and Ireland, community-energy projects are already cutting costs and reinvesting profits locally.

Funding will come to Northern Ireland — and we want to be ready.
