Sinn Féin Cllr Willie Clarke Condemns Violence Against Two Women in Newcastle

Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke has strongly condemned the recent attack on two women who were putting up posters in Newcastle to promote the Anti-Genocide in Palestine march, which was held in the town on Saturday.

Cllr Clarke said:

“The rise in violence against women in our community is deeply concerning and wholly unacceptable.

Mournes Cllr Willie Clarke has condemned the attack on two women putting up posters in Newcastle.

“The attack on two women in Newcastle, who were peacefully promoting the anti-genocide march, is appalling and must be condemned outright.

“These women were exercising their democratic right to peaceful advocacy, and it is shameful that they were met with intimidation and violence.

“Sinn Féin stands unequivocally against all forms of violence directed at women and girls.

“Every individual in our community has the right to feel safe and protected, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that women are not subjected to fear, threats or attacks.

“I stand in solidarity with the victims of this incident and commend their courage in continuing to speak out despite these unacceptable acts.

“I am calling on the authorities to take immediate action to address the root causes of violence against women, and to ensure that those responsible for these attacks are held fully accountable.

“Violence against women has no place in our society.

“Together, as a community, we must send a clear message that such behaviour will never be tolerated.”
