The Passing Of Mr John Wilkinson OBE

The passing of Mr John Wilkinson OBE, a former Southern Trust director

In a statement from the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, Eileen Mullan, Chairperson said: “We have been deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Mr John Wilkinson OBE, a much respected and valued former Non-Executive Director with the Trust.

“John was a generous colleague and friend to us all – bringing his experience of many years as a senior leader and role model within the Education sector to support our Board.

“Appointed in February 2016, John served until February 2024. During his eight years with the Trust, his focus was always on improving health and social care, and he was a steady and reassuring presence during a period of significant change across the health service.

“His role as Chair of the Patient Service User Committee perfectly illustrated his commitment to putting patients front and centre, and he chaired the committee with the empathy and compassion that was a hallmark of his time on the Board.

“I worked alongside John for many years, and valued the wisdom, integrity and the deep sense of purpose he brought to our Board with humility and humour. On behalf of the Trust, I extend my deepest sympathy to his wife Hazel, children Jonathan and Joanna and his wider family circle.”
