Ballycran lift the points as Castlewellan hurlers struggle
Down GAA,
ACHL Division 1,

Final score: Castlewellan 1-17 6-18 Ballycran.
The Castlewellan hurlers faced a rampant Ballycran side as they were ten players short from their first team due to injuries and players on holidays writes Jim Masson.
Ballycran got off to a devastating attack on the home side scoring a goal and a point in just over a minute. Paul Miskimmin ran through the Castlewellan ranks and managed to knock the sliotar over the line then Eoin Kelly pointed.

Castlewellan fought back and had a wide. Then Matthew Muldoon scored a point for Castlewellan to ease the shock.
Conor Dorian was in top form for Ballycran and opened his scoring with a point in play. Then Chris McCullough at the Castlewellan goal nudged the ball over the line for a goal for the visitors followed by a quick point from Dorian. Ballycran’s Jame Miskimmin took another point.

But Castlewellan despite the pummeling fought back and took a point but that was quickly erased with a Ballycran strike. Then the visitors struck again with a third goal from Andrew Bell.
The match mainly went Ballycran’s way with Connor Dorian taking another 6 points and Paul Miskimmin one point.
But Castlewellan’s Matthew McCabe had made an excellent effort and scored another 5 of the points with Eoin Maginn and Matthew Muldoon taking another 2 points. Basically Ballycran had created the quick advantage by scoring three goals in the first half.
But Castlewellan’s Matthew McCabe made an excellent run and passed to Luke McCabe who hit a low ball to the left beating keeper Cahal Laverty.

Castlewellan came out fighting and took a quick point by Muldoon.
The second half saw Ballycran take another 3 goals from Archie Bell, Paul Miskimmin and another from Bell.
Matthew McCabe continued his efforts with another two over the bar as Castlewellan persisted against a strong opposition. Muldoon then took a point.

But a spot perfect pass from Dorian to Miskimmin saw another goal for the visitors followed by a point in play by Dara Rogers.
Cfastlewellan had a close shave when Eoin Maginn passed to Matthew McCabe who hit just inches wide for a goal.
But Dorian was grinding away relentlessly and took another point but Maginn matched it followed by another from King.
Then to rub salt into the wounds, Bell took another goal finding the goal just marked with a defender as keeper Donagh Cairns had ran upfield to take a free.

Overall it was a fast and furious match and an impressive clinical performance by Ballycran saw them take the honours. They did not let up, and Castlwellan, despite the depletion of most of their first team players, showed they would not lie down to the visitors.
Castlewellan are hoping to stay out of the relegation zone and will be re-grouping soon for the remaining matches of the season.
