Ards roads claim another life
The Police Service of Northern Ireland can confirm a man has died following a road traffic collision on the Comber Road, Newtownards, on Monday, June 30 2025.
He was 34-year-old Peter Kelly from the Newtownards area.
Inspector Cherith Adair of the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision Investigation Unit said: “Around 7.25pm, we received a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a scrambler. The rider of the scrambler sadly died as a result of injuries sustained.
“The Comber Road, which was closed for a number of hours, has since reopened to traffic.
“Enquiries are continuing, and anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam or other footage which could assist with our investigation, is asked to contact Collision Investigation Unit detectives via 101, quoting reference number 1558 of 30/06/25.”

Jim Shannon MP has expressed his sincere sympathies to the family of Peter Kelly who died when his motorbike crashed on Monday night.
He said: “I was made aware of the accident and my sincere sympathies go out to his family at this terrible time.
“The PSNI are aware of some of the particulars but anyone who saw anything, please do make contact to create the full picture.
“This tragedy is a reminder of how precious life is, and there is a family in Newtownards who are grieving today and I know that our thoughts and prayers are with those who knew and loved him at this desperately sad time and for the days that lie ahead.
Cllr Naomi Armstrong-Cotter has said: “I was so upset to learn of the death of Peter Kelly, out on his motor bike and enjoying the clear weather.
“It is difficult to imagine how his family feel tonight and I will be praying for comfort in this dark time.”
