Ardglass GAC Beat Kilclief Ben Dearg At Ardtole in a close match

Ardglass GAC faced Kilclief in a local derby, always hotly contested, on a sunny evening at Ardtole.
It was Kilclief’s No 11 Fionn McFall who opened the scoring after Kilclief made a brisk start. But minutes later Ardglass’ Conor Hearney leveled with a point in play after a strong run into the Kilclief half.
Jamie Mcdarby kick the bal over teh Kilclieg posts for a point after McFall was fouled. Then Caolan O’Shea geared up with his first point.
But Kilclief struck an early blow with a goal, but Ardglass kept their nerve. The match was level once more.

After a spell of both teams toiling to get the better of the defences, it was GAvin O’Shea who pointed with a pass from Corey Mahon.
Kilclief kept attacking Ardglass but the Ardglass back line was effective and managed the keep their opponents at bay. McFall did have a good run at the home goal but he kicked wide in his final delivery.
Ardglass and Kilclief traded points again and then McFall who was spreading the ball well passed to Owen Curran who could have chanced a shot for a goal but played safe for a point.
Eoin Kelly almopst scored by chipping over keeper Attorasagastti’s head but defender Malachy Crangle read it well and was ther to stop the ball going into his net on the line.

But Ardglass Gavin O’Shea hit a long ball and collected 2 points on 25 minutes and this seemed to lift Ardglass.

Kilclief keeper Atorrasagasti scored a point from a free with a long kick pulling back a point. Then just before half-time, Rory Og Sharvin started a move passing to McFall who put the ball thgrough to Kelly who nailed a valuable point ghiving KIlclief a 2 point lead at the whistle.
Ardglass came out fighting in the second half and an Ardglass goal by Jamie McDarby put the home side a point to the better.
Kelly took a two pointer for Kilclief then Sam Carr scored for Ardglass. The pace of the second half had stepped up as both teams sensed the match could be won.

McFall pointed from a free but Kilclief were starting to lag behind Ardglass in attacks and Caolan O’Shea took another 2 pointer after claiming a point.

Kilclief came close to scoring as Ardglass failed to clear the ball from their goal mouth but eventually it was Dara O’Shea who sized and a ran out along the back line relieving the pressure.
And Caolan O’Shea took another point widening the gap as the clock was ticking.
Ardglass had shown some good, fast build-ups, and Kilclief too were at times looking sharp around the goal.
There wasn’t a great lot to separate the teams, still being early in the season, although Ardglass finished 4 points to the better. Ardglass took their chances in scoring from outside the circle with three two pointers whilst Kilclief had only one showing that the game can change quickly with attacking football under the new rules.
