Ulster Scots Agency Gets Funding Boost from Lyons

Communities Minister Gordon Lyons confirms increased funding for Ulster-Scots Agency

Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has confirmed an uplift in funding for the Ulster-Scots Agency, secured through a targeted reallocation within the Department for Communities.

Some one-off funding adjustments for 2025 were agreed at a Council meeting on 10th April 2025.

As part of this move, £103,000 will be transferred from the Department’s Culture Division directly to the Ulster-Scots Agency. Under existing cross-border funding arrangements, this decision will also unlock an additional £34,500 in support from the Irish Government, resulting in a total increase of £137,500 in the agency’s allocation.

Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has provided extra funding for the Ulster-Scots Agency.

Gordon Lyons said:xa0“This funding boost reflects our clear commitment to supporting the Ulster-Scots tradition and ensuring it continues to thrive as part of the rich cultural fabric of Northern Ireland.

“By directing this funding to the Ulster-Scots Agency, we are allowing the agency to expand its valuable work in communities right across Northern Ireland.

“It is vital that all traditions are respected and supported through balanced and responsible investment.”

This announcement comes as part of a broader funding process, which also saw the Irish Government make an additional one-off payment to Foras na Gaelige relating to historical pension costs.

These adjustments for 2025 are being made in advance of discussions which have begun between the North South Language Body and Sponsor Departments regarding the next Corporate Planning period, 2026-2028, which will include a review of historical governance matters within the agencies, including pension contributions.
