Health And Safety Day Coming To Downpatrick Mart

Donard and Mid-Down Ulster Farmers Union Groups Plan Farm H&S Day at Downpatrick Mart

The Donard & Mid-Down Ulster Farmers’ Union Groups are organising a Farm Health & Safety Day on:

Tuesday 1st April 2025 at Downpatrick Livestock Mart, running from 11am until 2.00pm.

The two Groups are jointly organising and running this event to enable farm families, workers and rural dwellers to meet safety advisors, watch practical demonstrations and obtain materials designed to raise awareness about safety concerns .

The UFU groups hope that this event will challenge and change the attitudes towards risk-taking and poor safety behaviours both in this generation and in the next generation of farmers and therefore reduce the number of life-changing and life-ending injuries among farmers.

As well as farm safety, the event will raise the importance of looking after and considering your own personal health.

The Farm Families Health Checks Van will also be present at the event and this is a mobile facility that offers free health assessments and advice to those attending.

The programme consists of a mobile screening unit to offer on-the-spot health checks including blood pressure monitoring, BMI, cholesterol breakdown, diabetic screening, Q risk score and mental health screening.xa0

Registration to ensure you get a slot with the health check van is advised and you can do so by contacting the Group Office on 028 44 612782.

On the day, those present feature:-

  • Farm Families Health Checks Van.xa0
  • Vulcan Inspection Services.
  • HSENI
  • Risk Management Services
  • Rural Support.xa0

There will also be the opportunity to connect at pop up stands with other agencies and organisations dedicated to supporting farming and rural communities.

The physical and mental wellbeing of farmers and those in the rural community is also of utmost importance and we also have Rural Support there on the day to update those present on the services and facilities that they offer.

A warm welcome is extended to all whether you are a current UFU member or not.xa0

No job is so important or urgent that a person’s life is put in danger or harms way.xa0 The UFU groups encourage farmers to attend to hear how to keep health & safety at the top of your agenda.

Lunch on the day is FREE of charge and is provided by Castlescreen Farm.xa0

Donations collected on the day will be in aid of Rural Support.
