Come On Down and Tri Down Triathlon Club’s Summer Programme

Down Triathalon Club Is Empowering New Triathletes

Down Triathlon Club is excited to announce the return of its highly successful “Come on Down and Tri” programme, now in its sixth year.

This initiative is designed to coach participants who are new to triathlon, guiding them through a 12-week training period to prepare for a sprint triathlon. The programme is proudly supported by Triathlon Ireland under the Women in Sport New2Tri initiative.

The “Come on Down and Tri” programme culminates in a thrilling sprint triathlon event, starting at Down Leisure Centre.

Participants will tackle a 750m swim in the pool, followed by a 20 km cycle around the historic townland of Downpatrick, and finish with a 5 km run in Dunleath Park.

This comprehensive training programme ensures that participants are well-prepared to complete the triathlon and achieve their personal fitness goals.

Michael Morrissey, Chair of the Down Triathalon Club, second lefgt, chats to some of the entrants to the Come On Down And Tri programme at a meeting in the Down Leisure Centre.

Leading the programme are three Down Triathlon Club Triathlon Ireland Level 2 Coaches: Bernie Magorrian, Madeleine Crawford, and Michael Morrissey.

They will be supported by the dedicated coaching team of Down Triathlon Club. Michael Morrissey, who also serves as the club’s Chairperson, expressed his pride in the programme’s continued success.

Michael said: “We are very proud to run the ‘Come on Down and Tri’ programme for the sixth time. Congratulations to all the participants for taking the biggest step by signing up.”

The Graduation Triathlon will take place at Down Leisure Centre on June 8, 2025.

Following the event, there will be a celebration to honour the achievements of all participants.

This programme not only promotes physical fitness but also fosters a sense of community and support among new triathletes.
