  • We must work together to cut childcare costs for workers and families says Mason

Sinn Féin South Down MLA Cathy Mason has been appointed as Chairperson of the All-Party Group (APG) on Early Education and Childcare.

She replaces outgoing chair Nicola Brogan.

The South Down MLA said she will use her position to “have the voices of families and childcare providers heard.”

South Down MLA Cathy Mason has been appointed to the All-Party Group (APG) on Early Education and Childcare at the Assembly.

“I am delighted to be appointed as chair of this APG as the vital work of tackling childcare costs continues.

“Already we have seen positive progress through the Executive’s childcare subsidy scheme, although I recognise there is more work ahead, including the delivery of a full childcare strategy.

“Childcare is a vital issue right throughout our society, and acutely affects our economy with many parents, particularly women, feeling like they have no option but to stay out of work to meet these bills.

“I am committed to working with the Education Minister, other parties and the childcare sector to cut costs further, keep money in the pockets of workers and families and ensure children have the best start to life.”
