Second Health In The City Launched By Newry BID

Newry BID Launches Health in the City Initiative

Newry BID (Business Improvement District) has launched its second annual ‘Health in the City’ initiative.

The full programme of free or subsidised events runs from Monday 17th February right through to Friday 21st March.

There will be events and activities taking place right across Newry City suitable for a range of age groups, aimed at encouraging people to take time out to focus on their health and wellbeing.

Events range from free yoga, lunch event for older people, and healthy breakfast at the gym to health and safety training for businesses and family fun with ‘Bikes and Beats’ cycling tour.

Eamonn Connolly, Newry BID Manager said, “It is fantastic to bring our Health in the City Initiative back to Newry bigger and better than the first time.

“This is an opportunity not only to give people the chance to try new things, but lots of the events on the calendar are ongoing so it gives us the ability to showcase the wealth of activities and events regularly available in Newry city.

“It’s easy for people to say that there’s nothing happening if they don’t know where to look. We hope that this programme has a little bit of something for everyone.

“At a conservative estimate there are almost 40 of our member businesses involved in the programme, before we include those that may sign up to events. There are also lots of activities for members of the public to get involved in.

Eamonn continued, “Our full programme of activities is available on Newry.com and will be online on various news outlets and on Newry BID’s Facebook page, where there will be additional content such as videos and further information.

“We do hope that people will engage with the programme, get involved and come along to some of the events.

“All the activities listed including the walking group, the social groups and the activity providers welcome new members.

” So even if you have never been to something like this before, please come along. You will definitely meet new people and positively impact on your health and wellbeing.”

Health in the City kicks off on Monday 17th February with a free taster BURN class in HEAT Gym and an Art exhibition in Newry Library from Action Mental Health ‘Home is where the ART is’ which runs until Saturday 8th March.
