Kilmore Rec Get Better Of Shankhill Utd In Second Half

Kilmore Rec turn up the heat in second half for a three goal win against Shankhill United

The NAFL, League Division 1A,

League Match,

Venue: Robert Adams Park – Saturday 4 1 25

Final Score: Kilmore Rec 3 xa0xa00xa0Shankill Utd.

Kilmore welcomed Shankill Utd to a cold Robert Adams Park and for the first half there was little to separate the sides with some decent passing football from both teams, however,xa0both sets of defences were alert to any dangers and snuffed out any real threats on goal writes Cyril McKinney.

Indeed Shankill were limited to no shots on target whilst Kilmore were restricted to two shots over the bar from distance from Jo Jo Burns and a tame shot from Rhys Clarke easily saved by the keeper plus a strike from Michael Carvill which crashed off the bar on the half hour.xa0

Nine minutes into the second half the deadlock was finally broken by Kilmore.

A left wing corner dropped to Yaroslav on the edge of the box and his powerful low strike deflected of a defender wrong footing the unlucky Ben Nicholl in the Shankill nets to put Kilmore 1-0 up.

On 62 minutes defender Jack Larkin volleyed over the Shankill bar from 6 yards in front of goal from another left wing corner.

However Larkin made amends for this miss on 73 minutes when he powered home a near post header again from a left wing corner to put Kilmore 2 up and looking comfortable.

Shankill continued to try and take the game to Kilmore but were undone again by some great interplay from the Kilmore attack and forward Anton McGrattan rifled home a low shot from just inside the box to make it 3-0 on 80 minutes.xa0

Overall this was a great team performance from Kilmore Rec with Larkin and Yaroslav dominant in defence while Michael Carvill pulled the strings in the middle of the park along with Jo Jo Burns who worked tireless throughout.

For Shankill they had some sound performances including their keeperxa0who kept the scoreline down with a string of fine saves particularly in the second halfxa0and their centre half Lucas Galashan who stood firm but was helpless to stop any of the three goals.

A race for possession: Shankhill’s Jake Curran and Kilmore’s Philip Doran.
