NI Water partially reopens Silent Valley following Storm Darragh
NI Water teams have been working hard to clear and repair the extensive damage caused to Silent Valley by Storm Darragh.xa0
However, NI Water are delighted to announce a restricted opening from 23rdxa0December 2024.xa0The Silent Valley Café will open on the 27thxa0December 2024. The Mourne Shuttle Bus Service will also be available from the 26thxa0December 2024 (weather permitting).
Gary Presho Water Supply Manager East at NI Water said: “The storm damage resulted in hundreds of trees falling or in need of being felled to make the area safe for visitors. xa0
“While there will be a prolonged period of closure across multiple areas of the park to ensure the safety of the public, we are also aware of how important the Valley is to visitors.xa0
“Therefore, while many of the trails are still inaccessible, we wanted to open up as much of the park as possible.xa0
“We would ask visitors to follow the safety notices and signs and only keep to the areas designated as safe.xa0Maps will be available at the entry point indicating what trails are still closed.xa0
“There are some trees that will need to be felled as they are damaged, we can reassure the public that we are doing this work in conjunction with forestry experts.
“We look forward to welcoming visitors to our beautiful Mountain Park where they can enjoy the scenery and fresh air over the Christmas period.
“NI Water would like to thank the public for their patience while this ongoing repair work is completed.”
The shuttle bus service is available from 12 noon to 5pm, 26thxa0December 2024 to 3rdxa0January 2025.
The café is open 10am-5pm from 27thxa0December 2024.
