Seaforde Women’s Institute Hold Craft Evening

Quoile Conference Of Women’s Institute Seeks New Members

The Women’s Institute (Seaforde Branch) held a craft session last night (Monday 11th November 2024) in the Young Farmers Hall at Seaforde. As always it was well attended with ladies young and old who enjoy the social night out and the bit of chat.

Judith Wainright, Secretary of the Seaforde Branch, said that she is also secretary of the Quoile area conference of Crossgar, Downpatrick, Annalong, Strangford, Killinchy, Spa and Slievenaman.

Judith said: “We are very keen to invite new members. It’s a great way to socialise once a month and meet new friends. There’s always something interesting going on.

“Tonight we have a ‘shop’, basically a table where members can donate small items for sale, the proceeds going to the Women’s Institute.

“The sessions are very informative but everything is based of developing friendships.

“Next year the National Federation of Women’s Institutes of Northern Ireland we will be celebrating our 60th anniversary and it will be a special year both for looking back and for looking ahead. The WI in the UK was formed in 1915 by a Canadian lady.

At the meeting in Seaforde Young Farmers Hall were Seaforde WI members (l-r): Jennifer Doherty, Margaret McCall, Heather Newell (artist), Eileen Milligan, Margaret McDowell-Willcox (Seaforde WI President), Audrey Briggs and Jennifer Robinson.

“The motto of the WI is ‘inspiring women‘ and the ethos of the organisation is non-sectarian, non-political, and we believe in truth, tolerance and justice.

“The work of the WI is about bringing women together, and providing them with educational opportunities and helping them to make a difference in their own communities.

“As part of our progressive work, on Wednesday 20th November at the YFC Hall in Seaforde at 7.30pm, we will be hosting an event about the Northern Ireland Assembly. It relates to the Women’s Parliament taking place in February 2025. Everyone is welcome.

“It will help clarify who your MLA is, how to raise issues with him or her, and how laws are made in Northern Ireland.

“If anyone is interested in coming along to this session, they are welcome, or any of the Quoile conference sessions, check out the website or Seaforde Facebook page for details”.
