Celtic Bhoys Enjoy Round Three Win In Junior Shield

Celtic Bhoys ramp up goals against Sandy Row in Junior Shield R3

Junior Shield Round 3,

Venue: Ballyhornan 3G pitch: Saturday 2nd November,

Celtic Boys  5   3  Sandy Row.

Celtic Boys welcomed Sandy Row to a damp Ballyhornan for this 3rd round Junior Shield to see off the visitors in the second half writes Cyril McKinney.

Celtic Boys were quick of the mark from the first whistle and went ahead on 5 minutes when a great left wing run and pinpoint cross to the near post from Conaill Kerr found Sean Ferris nip in to slot home past a helpless Stephen McDowell in the Sandy Row nets.

Then on 10 minutes Celtic Boys doubled their lead and it was the lively Kerr on the left wing crossing again for captain Mikey Rice to rise highest to send a thumping header past McDowell to put the home side 2 -0 up and looking as if they were cruising.

Not so – the visitors had other ideas and pulled a goal back on 15 minutes through their talisman and number 9 Michael Rea from the penalty spot when his strike partner was upended in the box.

Rea showed great composure and slotted home sending Celtic Boys keeper Stephen Moore the wrong way.

Sandy Row went in search  of an equaliser and were rewarded  on 30 minutes  when Rea got on the end of a great left wing cross from McAuley and beat Moore all ends up.

And before Celtic Boys could recover, Rea charged down a clearance and as the ball fell kindly for him he raced clear and completed his hat trick in great style on 33 minutes to see the visitors 3-2 to the good at the break.

Whatever was said at the interval by the Celtic Boys management certainly brought about a reaction and eventually the Sandy Row defence was breeched on 56 minutes when Jay Gibney  latched on to a half clearance by the Sandy Row defence and fired home from 8 yards to square things up.

Eamonn Gargan closes in for Celtic Bhoys as Sandy Row try and break into the Celtic goal area.

Substitute Peter Casey then sent Sean Ferris clear on the right edge of the six yard box and Ferris finished in fine style with a low drive to put the home side in front for the second time in this match.

Sandy Row at this stage were struggling to get over the hallway line and the Celtic Boys dominance was completed on 88 minutes when a Casey free kick from 25 yards rebounded off the keeper into the pathway of Celtic Boys left back Eamon Gargan who was following up and he gleefully fired to the net to leave the final score at 5-3 to the home side.
