Rural Phone Coverage Still Lagging Behind Says McGrath

Colin McGrath MLA says that rural phone coverage is still lagging behind

Colin McGrath MLA is concerned about weak phone signals across South Down in rural areas.

The SDLP’s Colin McGrath MLA has said that it is a disgrace that adequate phone coverage remains lacking in parts of South Down and has highlighted this to the Economy Minister.

Commenting, the South Down MLA has said: “I recently participated in the Assembly debate on mobile phone coverage recently as the signal strength across South Down is becoming increasingly patchy.xa0

“You can now no longer drive from Downpatrick to any surrounding town or village without losing your phone signal.

“For people living in these locations, their signal is such that they are left isolated, and unable to make a phone call.

“In emergency scenarios this is particularly worrying.

Society has moved us to be reliant on mobile phones and companies are charging big fees every month to be connected .

“But to be connected to a service that is getting worse is unacceptable. I hope the companies will pay attention to the will of the Assembly which is to see services and connections improve.”
