SERC Students Plate Up Winners at Intercampus Competition

With campus pride at stake, it was red hot in the training kitchens at SERC’s Bangor Campus for the college’s annual Intercampus Culinary Competition final.

Eight students, all completing the Traineeship NI Level 2 in Professional Chef at SERC’s Bangor, Downpatrick and Newtownards Campuses, took on the challenge to claim titles for Best Contemporary Starter and Best Main Course.

The competition was judged by Chef Brian McMillan, an industry professional with 45 years’ experience.

First place for the Best Contemporary Starter went to Noah Brown (Comber), based at the College’s Bangor Campus.

Joint First Place for the Best Main Course went to Michael Thompson (Bangor Campus) and Taylor Pietersen (Newtownards) based at the College’s Newtownards Campus.

Both Michael and Taylor were hot on the trail of their recent success at the IFEX International Food Exhibition, where they were awarded gold and silver medals respectively.
