McGrath Welcomes Aughlisnafin Road Safety Review

Colin McGrath MLA welcomes progress of safety review for the Aughnislafin Road

SDLP South Down MLA Colin McGrath has welcomed confirmation from the Department for Infrastructure that the Department will review the provision of road signs and markings along the Aughlisnafin Road.

South Down MLA Colin McGrath at the Aughnislafin bus shelter has welcomed the pending road safety review for the Aughnislafin Road.

Colin McGrath said: “For the last number of weeks I have been involved in an extensive campaign to see road safety measures implemented along the Aughlisnafin Road.

“As a busy arterial route it is essential that our road safety measures here meet the needs of the traffic.xa0

“Part of this has been the work with the local Council to see solar lighting provided at the bus shelter.

“This is ongoing and I hope to have an update from the Council soon.

“The other issue is the speed of traffic along this route. Local residents have contacted me to raise the issue of traffic speeds and I have been in touch with the Department for Infrastructure to highlight this.

“I do appreciate that they are currently inundated over the recent flooding across the District, however, it is important that issues such as this continue to be addressed.:

He added: “I welcome the confirmation from the Department that they are now going to carry out a review of the provision of road safety signs and markings along this route to ensure that all road users are aware of speed and the dangers this poses to pedestrians and other road users.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, particularly as we approach these colder and darker months.”
