Shannon concerned at drugs availability in the Ards area
Strangford MP Jim Shannon has urged parents to speak with their children about the availability of drugs in the Newtownards area.
He said: “Parents need to ensure they know that any drug – whether considered soft or hard – is not something that should be dabbled in.
“I have had a number of people highlighting to me the ready availability of drugs in our area and the number of our young people – in school or working – that have found themselves tangled up with the drug scene.
“It is very worrying for families. I would take this opportunity to speak to your children – of all ages – and highlight that if you have to buy it illegally then you shouldn’t be buying it.
“The only people who are doing well out of this are the drug dealers in our town.
“I am hopeful that the PSNI are closing in on those criminals and indeed several raids have been carried out that have been successful and these are welcomed.
“It is only as a community working together that we can combat the attraction of drugs.
“I would ask that if you know anything that would be useful in seeing these dealers paying the price for their illegal activities, then make contact anonymously with the PSNI on 101 or with myself through my office in Newtownards.”
