Alliance Welcome Plans for Conservation Centre at Murlough Nature Reserve
The popular Murlough Nature Reserve is to get a new centre for visitors.
Alliance representatives Patrick Brown MLA and Mournes Councillor Jill Truesdale have welcomed the plans for the new conservation centre at Murlough Nature Reserve.
They attended the public information day event where the National Trust unveiled their exciting plans.
The new facility will provide refreshments, amenities including a changing places toilet and educational material for visitors to contribute to the National Trust’s work in the reserve.
The facility will also provide a hub for staff and volunteers, as well as a space for community and environmental groups.
It is hoped the new centre will assist in enforcement and conservation efforts throughout the Murlough reserve.
Patrick Brown said: “I am delighted to welcome National Trust’s plans for a Conservation Centre at Murlough Nature Reserve.
“This centre will provide important services and facilities to the thousands of visitors that visit the area each year.
“I am also hopeful it will become a hub of conservation to support the National Trust and other community groups in protecting this beautiful area.’
“The National Trust hopes to submit plans in Autumn and complete most of the works by the end of next year.
“I look forward to seeing the next stages of the project and the opening of the centre.’
Cllr Jill Truesdale said” “The work National Trust does to protect and preserve the unique environment at Murlough is invaluable.
“I am hopeful this facility will support their work as well as providing a fantastic resource for all visitors.
“I am excited to support this project and see it reach fruition next year.’
