Road improvement scheme for A24 Drumaness Road, Ballynahinch
A carriageway resurfacing scheme on A24 Drumaness Road, Ballynahinch will commence on Wednesday 9 August 2023.
The resurfacing scheme will involve the resurfacing of a 0.7 kilometre stretch of the Drumaness Road from Tullybeg Fort to a point 50 metres north of the Ballymaglave Road junction.
This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network.
It will benefit of local residents, businesses and those who travel between Newcastle and Belfast and is expected to be completed by Saturdayxa023xa0September 2023.
To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement overnight road closures.
They will operate from 8.00 pm to 6.00 am, Monday to Friday, and from Monday 4 September to Saturday 23 September 2023.
The road will be open to traffic from 6.00am to 8.00pm each day and over the weekend.
Ballynahinch bound traffic will be diverted via A25 Castlewellan Road and B175 to Ballynahinch.
Newcastle bound traffic will be diverted to Clough Village via the B175 and A25 Castlewellan Road.
Downpatrick bound traffic will be diverted via B7 Crossgar Roadxa0 to Crossgar Village along xa0A7 Downpatrick Road , A7 Belfast Road and vice -versa.
It is expected that significant delays will be experienced as a result of these temporary traffic management measures.
Drivers are therefore advised to allow extra time for their journey. xa0
Local access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times although some minor delays may be experienced.
The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience.
However, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works.
All drivers are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.xa0
Subject to favourable weather conditions all work will be completed by 23 September 2023, however, the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
