Get Ready to Make a Splash for Mental Health with AWARE NI
AWARE NI, the depression charity for Northern Ireland, is thrilled to announce the highly-anticipated return of Sea Splash.
This exciting event is dedicated to promoting mental health awareness.
This year, the AWARE NI Sea Splash will take place on two separate dates to coincide with significant global awareness days.
On Sunday, 10 September, to mark World Suicide Prevention Day, the event will be held at the picturesque Benone Strand.
Before gracing the shores of Ballyholme Beach on Sunday, 8 October, to coincide with World Mental Health Day.
The AWARE NI Sea Splash invites individuals from all walks of life to join in on a revitalising sea dip, fostering community and connection.
Registration will open at 9.45 am at the stunning Ballyholme Beach on Sunday, 8 October, followed by the sea dip, which will commence promptly at 10.30 am.
The same schedule will be followed for the event at Benone Strand on Sunday, 10 September.
AWARE NI is dedicated to de-stigmatising mental health and supporting those affected by depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.
The Sea Splash aligns perfectly with the organisation’s mission, aiming to raise awareness and encourage conversations about mental health.
It also aims to promote the benefits of physical activity for mental well-being.
Participants of Sea Splash will not only experience the therapeutic benefits of a refreshing cold water dip but also join a community of like-minded individuals striving to make a difference.
Together, they will send a powerful message of solidarity and hope to those facing mental health challenges.
Lesley Wright, Events and Community Fundraising Officer at AWARE NI, expressed her excitement about the event, and said: “We are delighted to launch the return of the AWARE NI Sea Splash.
“This is part of our on-going commitment to promoting mental health and suicide prevention.
“This event will serve as a reminder of the importance of self-care and the significance of reaching out to others.
“We encourage everyone to join us in making a powerful statement about the value of mental health and supporting those who may be struggling.”
Ciaran May, owner of Natural Resilience and an experienced advocate for mental health, will also be leading the Sea Splash event.
May added: “I am honoured to be a part of the AWARE NI Sea Splash once again, an event that promotes mental health awareness and supports individuals in their journey to resilience.
“It is through events like these that we can break the stigma surrounding mental health and inspire others to seek help and support.
“I look forward to us coming together for this meaningful cause.”
Registration is open to all individuals aged 14 and over (under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult), regardless of swimming abilities.
Participants are also encouraged to showcase their creativity and enthusiasm by wearing fancy dress, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the event.
To participate in AWARE NI Sea Splash, individuals are required to pay a registration fee of £12.50.
Participants are also encouraged to seek sponsorship, aiming to raise £50 each to support AWARE NI’s vital work in mental health education and support.
The ultimate goal is to raise £10,000 at each Sea Splash event, which will significantly contribute to the ongoing programs and initiatives provided by AWARE NI.
