Lee-Surginor Gets PO Motion Through Council

Councillor David Lee-Surginor’s motion for electronic insurance acceptance at Post Offices passes full Council meeting

Alliance Councillor David Lee-Surginor’s successful motion calls for the Department of Infrastructure (DfI) to change the legislation on car taxation to allow Post Offices across Northern Ireland to accept electronic copies of insurance evidence in place of hardcopies.

Alliance Councillor David Lee-Surginor.

This he says would make the process of vehicle taxation simpler and easier for constituents.

The Rowallane councillor said: “I was pleased to see my motion, which calls for the DfI to allow Post Offices to accept electronic evidence of insurance, pass the full council Martin.

“The motion calls for an easier procedure on vehicle taxation, so that for those taxing their vehicles in person, the need to provide physical evidence of insurance policy is removed.

“The outdated policy does not cater for the fact that most people have evidence of their insurance online, rather than possessing physical hard-copies.”

He added: “I hope that this step can streamline the process of car taxation, making it more convenient for individuals and reducing administrative burdens.

“The motion urges the Department for Infrastructure’s Permanent Secretary to consider and enact the necessary legislation changes that would allow Post Offices to accept electronic insurance and cover notes for car taxation applications.

“This would make the process more accessible and efficient for people.”
