Ardglass Vikings are coming to Cutters Wharf in Belfast to Support the NSPCC
Call goes out for seafaring ‘warriors’ to sign up for annual River Lagan boat race in aid of NSPCC Northern Ireland.
Would you like to become a Viking for the day and raise vital funds to help protect children and young people from abuse?
The 2023 NSPCC Viking Boat Race will take place on Sunday May 28, at Cutters Wharf in Belfast.
Hundreds of would-be Vikings will have the opportunity to race replica Longships on the River Lagan in pursuit of the coveted Viking Horn Trophy, while raising money for NSPCC Northern Ireland.
Organisers have issued a ‘call to oars’ to businesses, families and individuals to form teams of 10 people and sign-up for the annual event.
Deadline for registration is Friday May 12.
Boats will be supplied by the Ardglass Viking Association who will accompany each crew during ‘battle’.
For those who prefer to watch the spectacle from dry land, come along to Cutters Wharf on the day, where there will be lots of family fun and entertainment including music, a raffle and barbecue.
Each team is asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £500 (this includes a £30 entry fee) or go the extra mile and raise £750 or more to receive a goody bag, BBQ item and drink. Teams can register at:
Viking fancy dress is encouraged for racers – and spectators!
Catherine Millar General Manger of Cutters Wharf said: “The NSPCC Viking Boat Race on Sunday May 28 will really mark the start of summer 2023.
“Once again, Cutters Wharf are partnering with Barefoot Wine to host this fun and family-friendly, all-day event.
“Admission is free, and Cutters Wharf will be open as usual for food and drinks.
“Patrons can come and watch the races from the bar and restaurant, or for those wanting to get into the spirit of the day, and take part in the various activities, there will also be an outdoor barbecue.
“We can’t wait to welcome everyone along to this great fun event which will raise much needed funds for NSPCC Northern Ireland.”
Sean Keogh of Ardglass Vikings Association added: “The annual NSPCC Viking Boat Race is a fantastic day’s fun on the River Lagan in aid of great cause.
“You don’t have to be super fit to take part as it’s all about timing and working together rather than sheer strength.
“It’s a fantastic team building event and great craic as well.
“It’s also a great spectacle for families and spectators who can watch the races from the dry land of Cutters Wharf where there will be lots of food, drink and activities on offer.
“This will be Ardglass Viking Association’s 21st year supporting NSPCC Northern Ireland and the event gets better and better every year.”
