Full Moon Film Festival 8 is coming to Newcastle Community Cinema
Newcastle Community Cinema (NCC) is running the 8th annual Full Moon Film Festival from Tuesday 8th to Sunday 13th of November.
There are a fantastic 24 titles over six days bringing plenty of movie magic to the shortening days as we head into Winter.
The NCC film festival is well supported by Whitewater Brewery and Black Box Donuts, as well as dozens of local businesses.
This year’s festival is again a celebration of keeping it local. It is this wonderful support that makes it possible for NCC to offer Film Festival Passes to all films for £17 full and £15 concession rates.
“We know how hard it is to make ends meet at the moment, so we are doing all we can to bring this year’s Full Moon to the district at affordable prices,” said NCC Chairman Rob Manley.
“The official opening film, the Irish language RĂ“ISE & FRANK (cert. PG), is brought by Film Hub NI, part of the BFI Film Audience Network, on its final date of its Collective Tour across Northern Ireland.
“All tickets for this up-lifting tale of a shaggy-dog, a grieving widow and a young hurling star are only £3.50 thanks to the generous support of the Collective Tour.
“Again this year, NCC is teaming up with the Into Film Festival to bring free screenings exclusively for school audiences aged 19 or younger to promote the love of film.
LU OVER THE WALL (cert. PG), CASABLANCA BEATS (cert. 12) and FLEE (cert. 15) are offered free to schools and further education colleges who sign up as members of Into Film.”
With COP27 coming up and climate change firmly on the agenda, support from Dolmens Climate Action Network presents the radical documentary ONCE YOU KNOW (cert. 15) that explores the notion of collapsology followed by a post-movie discussion. Held at Spy Pond on Causeway Road, Newcastle, all tickets are free for this event.
Can Do Academy is coming to Newcastle again to deliver workshops for budding young film-makers.
Kindly hosted at Shimna Integrated College, two Lego Animation workshops will take children aged seven or over through the steps to produce their own short film starring their favourite Lego Characters.
Then, for 10 years and up, Cartoon Character Development and 2D Animation will help participants to develop their drawing animation skills.
The programme is packed with star-studded movies and includes the new Book to Screen feature, which explores whether the film GONE GIRL (cert. 18) is as good the best-selling novel in a post-movie book club discussion.
Another innovation this year is a live JuJitsu demonstration by Down Community JuJitsu Clubs before the Jackie Chan 2018 remake of THE KARATE KID (cert. PG)
NCC is incorporating its regular fixtures of Baby Film Club with PARALLEL MOTHERS (cert. 15), Toddler Club with STICK MAN (cert. U) followed by a post-movie Stick Man activity, Silver Screen with BABY FACE (cert. 12A) and a Relaxed Screening of MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU (cert. U) for families living with neuro-diverse conditions.
NCC’s regular film festival favourite, Deckchair Cinema, will be screening short films in the front yard with hot chocolate and blankets for lovers of extreme cinema.
“There’s something for everyone at Full Moon 8 and if something is missing, let us know. After all, we’re your community cinema,’ Rob Manley added.
