Man Pleas Guilty At Newry Court To Sex Charges

61-year old man pleads guilty to illegal and extreme pornographic images of children

Police have welcomed a plea of guilty by a 61xa0-year-old man from the Newry area at Newry Crown Court (25th May 2022) for possessing indecent and prohibited images of children and possessing extreme pornographic images.

Sean Kelly pled guilty to a total of 18 offences involving 11 indecent images of children, 57 prohibited images of children and 1039 extreme pornographic images. Sentencing is planned for 6th July 2022.

Detective Inspector Vasey from The Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Child Internet Protection Team said: “My team takes the exploitation and abuse of children extremely seriously.

“Possession of indecent images of this kind is child abuse. The redistribution of child images only feeds the demand and contributes to the exploitation of further victims.

“If a person is downloading, viewing or making indecent images of children, you are leaving a digital footprint and we are actively looking for you.

“We have specialist officers within the Child Internet Protection Team who are dedicated to investigating these crimes, bringing those responsible before the courts and ultimately protecting further vulnerable young people from unimaginable suffering.

“We will not stop pursuing child sex offenders and I would encourage anyone with concerns or information to get in contact us on 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
