Ards Woman Receives Top Honours At Hillsborough Castle

Top Honours For Ards Woman At Hillsborough Castle

Newtownards woman Hannah Williams has received one of the highest accolades that can be conferred on members of the Reserve Forces and Cadet movement.

At a formal ceremony at Hillsborough Castle Bombardier Hannah Williams whose service is based at the 206 (Ulster) Battery at Crawfordsburn Road in the town was presented with the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Outstanding Meritorious Service Above and Beyond The Call of Duty.

Bombardier Hannah Williams is pictured at the Hillsborough Castle event, receiving her Award and congratulations from Mr David McCorkell, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for County Antrim.

The Citation which accompanies her award describes Hannah as ‘professional and well qualified’ and pays tribute to her ongoing involvement as a member of Saluting Troops delivering Royal Gun Salutes at Hillsborough Castle. It also highlights the vital work she recently undertook during the recent pandemic acting as a driver for Medical Support Teams.

The Citation praises her ‘attitude and infectious optimism, combined with her drive to improve her skills’.  Those qualities are evident in all her work within the Reserve Forces, not least in her achievements as a highly qualified Skiing Instructor and as a member of the Royal Artillery Sports Parachute Association and a key member of the team which won gold at the Armed Forces Parachute Championships earlier this year.

The Citation concludes with praise for Bombardier Williams’ communications and outreach work, adding “her collaborative, helpful nature and the energy she brings to the Army Reserve indicates that she is thoroughly deserving of recognition.”
