Shannon Concerned At Antisocial Behaviour In Newtownards

Shannon says local traders and car owners are suffering losses

Jim Shannon, MP for Strangford, has called for an extra policing presence in the centre if Newtownards to tackle the recent increase in robberies, thefts and damage over the last few weeks.

He said: “One local shop has reported 9 thefts in the last 2 weeks and it would seem that in many cases there are young people involved.

“It is really time for everyone to take action to do more with these young people.

“It has also come to my attention that there has been damage to cars in the Frances Street area of Ards Town when someone walked over a car bonnet damaging the front of the car and then breaking into the car and damaging the doors.

“CCTV must be improved and there must be feet on the street with a police presence letting people know that they cannot simply carry out these actions unchecked and unpunished.”
