McGrath pays tribute to children’s cancer unit at the RVH
SDLP Health Spokesperson Colin McGrath MLA has paid tribute to the outstanding staff in Northern Ireland’s Children’s Cancer Unit on International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day which took place on Friday 4th February.
He said: “Every year between 60 and 70 children are diagnosed with cancer in Northern Ireland and they will all spend time at the Children’s Cancer Unit at Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital.
“International Childhood Cancer day is an opportunity to raise awareness about cancers that affect children and young people and the huge impact a diagnosis can have on their whole family.
“It’s also a chance for us all to express our support for the incredible work that the Children’s Cancer Unit at Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital is doing to help these kids and their families through an immensely difficult period.
“Every year around 60-70 children will be diagnosed with a childhood cancer in Northern Ireland. It is impossible to underestimate the importance of the support they receive from the amazing team at the Royal Victoria Hospital.
“We also have to pay tribute to the fundraising efforts that go on throughout the year led by the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity. They are ensuring that every child who engages with this service has the best possible care and the best chance at a happy life.”
