O’Dowd announces £275,000 road and footpath improvement scheme for Hill Street, Ardglass

Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd has announced that a £275,000 carriageway resurfacing and footway refurbishment scheme on Hill Street, Ardglass, will commence on Monday 2 December 2024.

The resurfacing scheme will involve the resurfacing of a 0.3 kilometre stretch of Hill Street from its junctions with Quay Street and High Street.

The Infrastructure Minister said: “This is a substantial investment for the Ardglass area which will deliver significant benefits for road users and pedestrians.

“The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road and footpath network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities.

Hill Street in Ardglass is to see a £275,000 improvement to the road and pavements starting on 2nd December.

“This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Ardglass area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 24 January 2025.

“I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement a daily road closure from 8am – 5pm, from Monday 2 December to Friday 20 December 2024, and, from Monday 6 January to Friday 24 January 2025.

An alternative route will be signed, with traffic being diverted via the following route: Bath Street, Quay Street, and Kildare Street.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access and Translink bus and school services throughout the scheme, road users are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Friday 24 January 2025, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
