RGU Club Notes

writes Collie Quinn. Down bowed out of the All-Ireland with a very lacklustre performance against Derry on Saturday but once again Peter Turley proved himself the pick of the bunch with a sterling performance. Senior football mow takes a break for a fortnight before the Hoops take on Mayobridge. The Minors and U-16s both found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline against Warrenpoint this week in their respective leagues The minors now prepare for the Championship group stages with games coming up in the A section against Mayobridge, Saul and An Riocht whilst the U-16s have the formidable task of an away game in Pairc Esler against favourites Shamrocks. The U-14s were beaten by Bryansford on Monday but put up a real battle despite missing several key players due to injury and they now look forward to the Championship after the holidays. The U-12s had no game this week but look forward to the visit of Cork Club Kilshannig Thomas Russells on the weekend of 19th July. This is the fourth instalment of an annual event between the two clubs named after Thomas Russell, who hailed from Dromahane in the parish of Kilshannig. RGU visited the Cork club last year and 2010 and this will be the second visit of the Rebels to Downpatrick. There will be a blitz on the Saturday morning involving some of our neighbouring clubs before the two clubs battle it out for the Thomas Russell Cup on the Sunday, whilst the girls will also battle it out with the visitors as well. We look forward to giving our friends a great weekend to remember. There will be no U-6s until 27 July. Girls training will continue as normal Brand new RGU website coming soon.
