Killyleagh’s Star of the Sea Church Hosts Cappella Caeciliana Choir

ST MARY’S  Star of the Sea Church in Killyeagh held its Christmas carol service in style this year with the magnificent 20 strong ensemble, the Cappella Caeciliana.

The singers have performed in Italy, Germany, Ausria, Switzerland and the USA and all over Ireland and the North. Their sacred music was much appreciated by the packed church. The choir has already made three recordings on CD and broadcasts regularly on the BBC.  Under the direction of musical director Donal McCrissica, Cappella Caeciiana, the choir has gone from strength tp strength and recently three members, The Priests, signed a record deal with SONY.

Fr O’Neill of St Mary’s Star of the Sea had invited the choir to celebrate Advent at the Killyleagh chapel. It was a special occasion too for the children from the local parish from local St Mary’s Primary School who also contributed to the service.

Following the welcome by Fr O’Neill, Cappella Caeciliana sang Hodie Christus Natus Est, the Wexford Carol, Hymn to the Virgin, Ave Maria, Quem Patores, Lux Aurumque, Sing Lullaby, Ding Dong Merrily on High, and Gaudete… a festive mix.

St Mary’s Primary School choir sang O Holy Night and mimed the actions…  and perhaps one day, a young singer in this choir may be singing with the Cappella Caeciliana.
