Primary Schools Visit Council Chamber in Downpatrick

Two primary schools from Downpatrick recently visited the local council chamber getting a taste of politics first hand from Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Michael Savage.

The chairman was delighted to welcome representatives from both St Brigid’s Primary School, Downpatrick and Downpatrick Primary School to the Council Chamber in the Downshire Civic Centre on Monday 21 November 2022.

As part of the Shared Education Programme each of the schools brought pupils from their School Councils and Eco Councils to enable the students to gain more understanding on how Local Government works and the impact that it makes within the district.

Pupils also had the opportunity to take part in a question-and-answer session with the Chairperson to understand the many different aspects of the role that he plays as First Citizen within the district.
